Indigenous Rights Movement

There Was a Certain Amount of Hope...

There was a certain amount of satisfaction and hope when during the time of the conference with tribal leaders in December President Obama announced the United States would support the U.N. Statement on The Rights of Indigenous People. Having been the last nation on the planet to get on board with the agreement was a little shameful but I thought ‘hey, at least he did it.’ But there were those who were skeptical of the language of his statement. He said the United States would “support” the
agreement. Not sign it. But again I thought his word was worth more than Tatanka cesli.

Well it seems that is all his word is worth. Within a matter of days the State Department was issuing clarification on it, making exceptions to it. Making certain it was understood that the U N Statement on The Rights of Indigenous People was nothing that the United States government felt in any way obligated to follow…Saying that it could be used as a guideline but had no effect in the law. And it turns out the United States did not actually sign the statement at all...Just words out of the mouth of a man who uses both sides to talk with and at times his backside also. A convenient thing for him to say for public relations at the time the Tribal leaders were in Washington for the conference.

Followed by the double talk of the President quickly came the attack from the right wing pundits. Obama is going to give all the land back to the Indians. Where are you going to live when the Indians get all the stolen land back? Once more our people are batted around by the government and politics of this country. And in the word game that they play our people vanished and their word game took center stage. Once more we are lied to, deceived and taken for fools. Obama got his p.r. statement out and his face on camera with “his Indians.” Hillary Clinton called us “our Indians.” These are two highly educated people. You have to realize they choose their words carefully. Obama’s support is equal to his support for the Washington Red Skins. Which is right under his nose and he sits still for it. Clinton’s weaseling around on the document looked un-thought and aimless other than to use the English language to say a whole lot which came down to ... we don’t care. Pretty much saying she would line her bird cage with the document to her that is how valid it is.

They play these word games all over the world. They say many words to say nothing but lies, when the truth itself takes few words.

Our people are a patient people . And a people who’s word is good when given. One day it would be nice to see the government of this country mature to the point of a real civilized country, a country that didn’t make its wealth and greatness off of the stolen assets of our people but instead returned just a fraction of what was stolen from our people so we may live a healthy life. This government has given its word time and again about things. But it seems the English language is a dangerous, tricky language when used by thieves and robbers and liars.

Support? Guess Obama and Clinton both meant their stockings.

We have to grow ourselves to the point of not expecting or needing things from those who only take and never give. They will fall down, they will eat each other. We must remain patient. Turtle Island is ours.

The infestation will one day go away…
