The Whisper n Thunder Winds Scholarship will be awarded to a Native American student as nominated by one of the Whisper n Thunder donors or subscribers.  Any Native American student can apply on their own.  This scholarship will be awarded on a one time basis to the nominee.  


PLEASE NOTE:     1.  Any Native American student, any age or subject, may apply with or without nomination by a subscriber or donor.
2.  Whisper n Thunder paid donors & subscribers may nominate a student.

   

ALL NOMINATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY MAY 1, 2011.


Criteria:

The nomination will be written in an email format. Please address the following questions in your nomination letter:

1) Share with us the reason this person deserves the scholarship. Include traits that would make the nominee stand out from other students. Include ways in which the student has demonstrated leadership, creativity, and academic achievement.

2) In what ways has the student demonstrated a desire to serve his or her Native community? Include examples of service to others, family and Native community work and/or organization.

3) List the 3 most outstanding personality traits of the nominee and why they will contribute to the nominees' future in a positive way.

4) Answer the following questions:
  a. Does the person have financial need?
  b. What is the grade point average of the student?
  c. What are the student's plans for the future? Include both school and intended  profession.
 
5) The nominated student will write an essay answering one of the following two questions. The essay must accompany your nomination.

   "What is the greatest contribution Native culture can give as a gift to the global community?"

-or-

"In an effort to correct American history to reflect the true history of North American and Native interaction, how would you seek to educate all people of all races about what has happened, and what needs to happen?"

6) The student who receives the scholarship agrees to write for each issue of Whisper n Thunder during the academic year of their award (4 issues), sharing about their educational experience.

 
Nomination MUST Include:

  •   Student Name
  •   Tribe affiliation
  •   Student Address, telephone number (if available) & email address (if available)
  •   Date of birth of student
  •   Current school & grade level
  •   College, university or vocational school where scholarship is to be applied
  •   A letter of recommendation from a current or past teacher
  •   WnT Donor or Subscriber name and contact information (if nominated through that channel)
  •   May Whisper n Thunder publish a photo of the student upon scholarship award?

The nomination and essay will be reviewed by the WnT Winds Scholarship Committee. Scholarship awards will be announced in June 2011.
