Whisper n Thunder Hint Fiction Contest

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS OF THE 2010 HOLIDAY CASH CONTEST!
1ST PRIZE - CAROLINE SPOSTO
2ND PRIZE - A.M. DONOVAN
3RD PRIZE - JERRY-MAC JOHNSTON

1st Place - Caroline Sposto - Careless smoking caused a fire in the little circus tent. Every performer perished. They were only trained fleas, but my husband loved them like brothers.

2nd Place - A.M. Donovan - Late at night. She wakes. The only sound, a quiet drip, a small splash. "But the faucet doesn't leak."

3rd Place - Jerry-Mac Johnston - I burnt the biscuits this morning thinking of you. Good thing you weren't here. Such a distraction could have cost me the whole house.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED THIS YEAR - HOPE YOU'LL JOIN US AGAIN NEXT YEAR. THE CREATIVITY WAS FANTASTIC!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ONE AND ALL FROM
ALL OF US AT WHISPER N THUNDER!

Inspired by a recent report on National Public Radio on the book “Hint Fiction: An Anthology of 25 Words or Fewer”  by Robert Swartwood, Whisper n Thunder is announcing a contest.

The idea behind ‘Hint Fiction’ is you tell a whole story in 25 words or less. The form, according to Swartwood in the NPR report, ‘forces readers to fill in the blanks…hints at a larger story, but the brevity of these stories really challenges the readers imagination.”

From the book:

The most famous of these is by Ernest Hemingway:

“For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”

(I don’t know about you, but that got me thinking!)

Another example from Swartwood’s book, by author J. Matthew Zoss:

Houston, We Have a Problem

I’m sorry, but there’s not enough air in here for everyone. I’ll tell them you were a hero.

Another example (ok – I had to give it a try!) :

He woke up in complete darkness. The only sound the wind, the Creator’s flute. It was 10 a.m.

All you have to do is:

1)    Write your very “short story” in 25 words or less.

2)    Email your story to bkfidlin@hotmail.com.  In the subject line write Holiday Cash Contest.

3)    All entries are due by Sunday, December 5th. Winners will be announced December 10th.

Winners?

You bet!

1st Prize: $75.00

2nd Prize: $50.00

3rd Prize: $35.00

Enjoy, have fun, and we can’t wait to hear from you!
